Deadly Choices Community Days

Deadly Choices is an awesome initiative that is set up to encourage our mob to make healthy choices for themselves and their families – including quitting smoking, eating healthy and exercising daily. Every year the Deadly Choices crew hold a Community Day in our region and our Health Team goes along to give them a hand. It’s a great day out – lots of fun activities, health information, guest speakers and freebies. This year you will have the chance to meet Patrick Johnson – an Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion who is a proud ambassador for the Deadly Choices initiative. Check out the posters below for dates/times/details of the Collinsville and Bowen events.

Wish him well!

Girudala’s Sport and Rec officer Gareth Prior will be taking a shot at the North Queensland Championship belt this Saturday (8th Sept) night in Townsville. He has been focused and working hard to prep for this fight – and our mob could not be prouder of him. On top of his very busy role at Girudala, Gareth also runs a boxing gym here in Bowen for kids and adults. He has achieved life changing results with some of the youth he was worked with as part of his PCYC/Girudala Sport and Rec role. He is a dedicated and generous young man who works hard for his mob, his community and his organisation – we are all behind him 100% this weekend and know he deserves this win. If you are in Townsville – or want something fun to do on your Saturday night – you can buy tickets from http://www.tecc.net.au/events/event/192/rite-of-passage – come along and cheer on our GP!! And if you cant make it, make sure you post a message of support below 👇 so he knows we are all behind him! 😎😀💪#riteofpassage #priorsboxinggym

Upcoming Events

Girudala has lots of exciting events coming up over the next few months.

We are one of the major sponsors of Bowen’s Legends of League tournament on May 5th. We’ll be there running a food stall and enjoying all the footy action for the afternoon – if you get your 715 health check at Herbert Street Family Medical Centre before the event you go into the running to be one of four people to run on to the field with a legend!30420016_811709595686713_9219026635040422198_o.jpgThis year’s NAIDOC Celebrations are shaping up to be lots of fun – with our Street Parade being held on Friday 13th July and our Family Fun Day on Saturday 14th July.

There are lots of opportunities to get involved with an art competition open to all ages (with great cash prizes), community and academic awards to be awarded on the day plus lots of arts and craft activities, traditional games, music, dancing and delicious tucker for all to enjoy. If you would like nomination forms for the awards or art comp – get in touch with Sara at Girudala on 47861000 or pop into the office.
